Laughter and thrills on the skating rinks of Paris

Categories : Entertainment, published on : 12/4/19

With the Christmas holidays coming up fast and cold weather ahead, it’s time to strap on your skates and get some blade action on the temporary ice rinks of Paris. It’s a great way to stay in trim while having fun and a lovely experience to share with those you love. Read on as the Ouest Hotel offers some rink recommendations to send you gliding on your way.

Ice-skating under the glass roof of the Grand Palais

Come and have fun on the largest indoor ice rink in the world, open until January 8th under the majestic glass roof of the Grand Palais. Approximately 2,700 m2 of ice provides plenty of elbow room for skaters of all ages and levels of ability. A truly magical place with its light effects and music, this temporary rink will probably not return next winter because the Grand Palais will be closing for renovations. All the more reason to enjoy it this year!

Hijinks on the high rinks

Imagine doing those triple axels while taking in a spectacular view of Paris! You can make it happen thanks to the capital’s high-rise ice rinks. This exhilarating experience is even richer in the evening, when the capital and its monuments sparkle with a thousand lights. Glide 110 metres above sea level on the ice rink of the Grande Arche de la Défense until January 5th, 2020. Treat yourself to a skating session suspended between heaven and earth on the rooftop of the Galeries Lafayette Haussmann, which offers for the first time 176 m2 of ice that commands breathtaking views of the illuminated city. Or you can go even closer to the stars with the 210-metre high panoramic rink of the Montparnasse Tower, with its eco-friendly, fully synthetic skating surface!

Skate in a green setting at the Jardin des Tuileries

This year, the magic of Christmas comes to the Jardin des Tuileries thanks to the rink installed on the Rivoli side of the park, in the heart of the Christmas Market. Young and old alike can enjoy 500 m2 of ice and a lot of frozen fun. One area is reserved for younger children while another is set aside for experienced skaters. Just look up amidst the illuminated Christmas trees, attractions and decorated rides and you’ll catch a glimpse of something you’ll not see anywhere else... Santa flying through the sky! Enjoy this fabulous winter sports environment with your family or friends every day until 23:45 and on weekends until 00:45.

Skating on the Champ de Mars

Head to the Christmas village and 300 m2 rink at the foot of the Eiffel Tower for the opportunity to show off your skating prowess in an enchanting setting. And that’s not all. Children can experience the pleasures of skiing, cross-country skiing or snowshoeing on a specially designed play trail. The joy of skating, enjoying daily entertainment, sipping mulled wine or hot chocolate and savouring toasted marshmallows will help you learn to love the winter and realise that it has some real benefits!
